Edwin and Sylvia traveled with family and friends to celebrate their marriage on the beautiful Manuel Antonio beach. Sylvia is originally from Costa Rica, and Edwin from Mexico. I loved how the couple was able to include elements from each of their countries in the wedding celebrations, and boy was this a celebration! There were performances, dances, surprises, all of the right elements to make a perfect evening of fun! When I arrived at La Mariposa Hotel Sylvia was getting ready with her sister Catherine. Sylvia's wedding dress is a beautiful antique. It was worn by her grandmother on her wedding day in 1937! The reception space at Mariposa Hotel has a beautiful sweeping view of the national park. Edwin was getting ready on the other side of the hotel. I was able to get a few shots of him getting ready before heading down to the beach for the ceremony. The ceremony was held at the Manuel Antonio beach under the shade of the wild almond trees. Edwin and Sylvia asked their guests to make a circle around them for the ceremony, creating a very intimate space for the two to share their vows. Immediately after the ceremony Edwin and Sylvia were overcome with emotions and ran straight for the water. It was so sweet to see the joy and excitement on their faces. After the sunset and a little rain to cool everyone off the group headed back to the Mariposa Hotel to enjoy the reception. A mariachi band serenaded the couple and showed respect to Edwin's heritage. The guests loved it and many ended up joining in for a dance. Sylvia's father, Grant, even took up an instrument and played a song for the couple. La Mariposa Hotel went above and beyond by surprising the couple with a traditional dance performance by local children. The bride, being Costa Rican, absolutely loved it. It was such a wonderful and thoughtful idea by the hotel's wedding coordinator Marissa. As I mentioned before this wedding was full of entertainment and surprises. Sylvia's friends from Japan, Minami-chan and Gucci-co, who are dancers, surprised the bride with a high energy dance performance. When they were announced Sylvia broke down in tears, I could tell it just meant so much to her that they performed on her wedding day. The bouquet was tossed, the garter forgotten and the couple danced the rest of the night away! Photography: Yours Truly
